Deadstock 1930s Montgomery Wards Pioneer Chambray Work Shirt with NRA Code Label
In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced Americans to the National Recovery Agency as part of his First New Deal. The NRA was designed to bring industry, labor and government together to establish codes for fair practices and set prices. It also established a set minimum wage and maximum weekly hours laborers could work. The NRA was very popular with workers. Business who supported the NRA would post its iconic blue eagle symbol in their shop windows and on their packages. Blue Eagle NRA labels also were sewn into clothing produced at the time. In 1935, the U. Supreme Court declared the NRA unconstitutional, ruling that it infringed upon the separation of powers under the U. Constitution and all NRA operations ceased. Today, items with the NRA label (only used between 1933 and 1935) have become highly sought after. This iconic men’s work shirt is a rare treasure. Not only does it have the NRA label, but it also has NEVER BEEN WORN! Fashioned in a blue cotton chambray fabric with heavy grain, this shirt features. Ontrasting white cotton single, double and triple stitching. Ventilation eyelets stitched in green cotton thread on t. He back side of the top yoke and under the arms on the front and back. Patch style front pockets. Lower side hem gussets. Original Montgomery Wards Pioneer tag with Lot (3112B) and Size (15). Original NRA Code, Cotton Garment Code Authority license number (503123) tag. This shirt has never been worn and is in near mint vintage condition. There is one tiny copper/brown spot on the collar. It is the size of a pen point and might be able to be laundered out. It feels like it is a surface stain and most likely happened during years of storage. Please do not ask. I try to be as thorough as possible when listing an item.
