You are viewing a Rare antique – likely early 1900’s indian – made beaded leather fringed coat or jacket. Perhaps made by cree or plains indians… We really are not positive. Superbly constructed of thick but supple likely brain-tanned moosehide leather, (possibly elk, but our guess is moosehide) it features beautiful and colourful hand-sewn beadwork fanned across the chest and upper back. Other Features include a rare brass zipper by “flash”, two exterior pockets and full lining. Thick durable leather with an excellent patina. Authentic garments of this type and era are becoming more scarce as time rolls on. This is a beautiful – and wearable – example of the outstanding clothing made by native north americans. Another vintage classic – so much more style and constructed in a way that is seldom seen in these days of mass-production. All items fit differently so please follow measurements. Size is not tagged – but we recommend that you measure an actual garment that fits you well and compare the measurements for the best fit. All measurements taken on outside of jacket, buttoned and laid flat. Chest taken under arms – 41 inches. Shoulders – measured across the back from shoulder seam to seam – 20 inches. Sleeve – from shoulder seam to sleeve cuff – 24 inches. Sleeve – from bottom of collar seam to sleeve cuff – 31 inches. Length taken from top to bottom of coat 29.5 in. Bottom edge measured all the way around – 44 inches. Condition is very good inside and out – for it’s age. There are no holes or tears in the leather. Beadwork appears to be 100% intact. Fringes are all present save for 2 or 3 missing or partial strands. Zipper strong and functions smoothly. There are two old small repairs. A badge was removed from one upper arm and the colour there is slightly darker and left small needle holes. Shows minor expected wear. The lining has a spot or two where it has rubbed through – see photos. There is a tear in the lining under one arm. You may find it clean and wearable as is, but as with all pre-owned items, we recommend cleaning it. Please check measurements and review photos carefully.
