For sale here is a real beauty, its a Palm beach summer suit made by Goodall dating from around 1935, which is super in itself but the cut is whats important here. This is the’ China Town’ cut of a half belt and blouson back with darted shoulders, double breasted with patch pocket – super stylish. The trousers match the suit and are original but they are a slightly lighter colour. It seems to me that the trousers have been washed over the years and the jacket was perhaps put up for retirement after certain stains appeared. I have read about this fabric being difficult to clean but it certainly looks like the trousers have been washed or maybe dry cleaned and I would suggest that the jacket can also be washed , as there is no wool or canvas in the jacket. For the mohair in the cloth, but like I say, the trousers have definitely been cleaned somehow. Armpit to armpit – 20. Trs – 31 2x 34. Trouser sizing key – (waist) (spare at waist) x (length) (spare at hem) x outer leg x hem width. As mentioned the jacket is stained but perhaps cleanable, if so then its very good, original buttons are present, no alterations and no damage / wear. Really though this suit is in the archive for the style. The condition of the clothes isn’t important but some of course will be excellent and ready to wear. The three designations for condition are’ poor’,’ good’ and’excellent’. If you are intending to wear the items then really ignore all but’ excellent’. Of course you can keep the items if you prefer. The archive is in storage and so will be expanding as time allows. These items only make it in to the archive if they are particularly special, perfect examples of styles or of peaks in sartorial history of costume in the UK.
