Vivienne Westwood/Malcolm McLaren Seditionaries God Save The Queen Muslin 70s OG
For sale is a very special Vintage’God Save The Queen’ Seditionares Muslin made and designed by the legendary Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren. This shirt is a collectors item, but of course can be worn as is and would serve as an absolute show stopper. It is the the true article and a legitimate part of British history. It is 100% paper thin soft Cotton, it has minor distress and discolouration, intentional paint flicks and worn fraying by design. It is complete with all six working D-clips and its genuine label proving provenance. The economic crisis of the 1970s had triggered Punk movement, which inspired both Westwood and McLaren to find their way to the top. While Mclaren started managing the Sex Pistols, Westwood transferred the controversial image of punk into the world of fashion. Her main focus was on breaking taboos and capturing the atmosphere of riot and danger. The punk lady used Nazi symbols as well as sexual references in her designs and played with gender stereotypes. Vivienne also liked to use traditional British elements: Union Jack, Scottish tartans, and images of monarchs. A great example of her signature style might be the iconic God Save The Queen t-shirt created in collaboration with McLaren, and Reid in 1977 (also the year of the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II). They altered an image of the Queen creating another version of the famous Cecil Beaton photograph. They shut the Queens mouth with a safety pin (an iconic accessory for Punks) and covered her eyes with swastikas. Genuine articles of this calibre are incredibly and increasingly hard to come by. This is British, Music and Fashion history rolled into one, its beautiful. I believe this also represents a smart investment as the items other than being destroyed are becoming more and more scarce and finite. This muslin is a small, it boasts a genuine Westwood fit. It measures 18″ pit to pit, 21″ top to bottom, and 31 in the sleeve. This item is from 1977 – making it a staggering 42 years old it is in beautiful condition considering its age and very special.
