Levis used the same selvedge denim from Cone Mills of North Carolina a Levi’s brand partner for over 100 years. 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the legendary partnership between Levis and Cone Mills. To commemorate this historic gentlemans agreement, this LVCs collection pays tribute to the American denim bastion, the 1915 501 jean, and the people who helped put it all together. The 1915 501 is a buckle-back jean with exposed rivets at the rear pockets as well as a crotch rivet. It accommodates for suspenders and keen denim enthusiasts will note the single-needle arcuates. The story of Cone Denim began in 1891, when brothers Moses and Caesar founded Cone Export & Commission Company. By 1905, they established a mill that would become renowned for setting standard for quality denim. Cone’d Denim’s White Oak mill, named after a 200-year-old tree on its grounds, continued to do so more that a century later. Regarded as a stronghold of textile history, while Oak remains an integral resource for its archives and endless inspiration. In 1915, Levi Strauss and Co. Approached Cond Denim, and a historic agreement was struck which granted Cone the exclusive right to manufacture Levi’s proprietary Shrink-to-fit denim for all Levi’s 501 Jeans. This gentleman’s agreement, became known as “The Golden Handshake”. A century later, Levis Vintage Clothing is still unearthing archival details about fabrics they’ve developed throughout our history with Cone Denim. These 1915 501 Jeans celebrate this history-reproducing the fabric and fit from 1915, and carrying the secrets of 100-year partnership within their warp and weft.
