Here’s is an absolutely outstanding example of fine 1940’s gents tailoring and some rare find: a custom tailored authentic 40’s vintage double breasted two-piece suit. Cut from rich and supple chocolate brown pure gabardine cloth with a truly wonderful drape. This suit comes from renowned RAAB BROS. Tailoring Company of Chicago and is dated 1942. All the features you’d expect from a characteristic hand tailored suit from that period. Superb cut and styling with six-button double breasted front, accentuated shoulders, huge and beautifully curved pointed lapels, suppressed (hourglass) waist, no rear vent. Fully but softly canvassed, beautiful aubergine-colored skeleton lining to the jacket, cream sleeve linings sewn in by hand. Fabulous trousers: high-waist straight cut trousers with very wide legs and generous cuffs. Pleated front, button fly, small fob pocket, slanted side pockets, two rear pockets, both buttoned. No size given as to be expected from a bespoke suit but all measurements suggest US/UK size of 36 or slim 38R. The suit is displayed on a 36 mannequin. Please check the following measurements. Shoulder seam to seam: 18. Armpit to armpit: 19. Shoulder seam to cuff: 24.5. Collar seam to hem: 29. Waist: 31″ (2″ to let out). Bottom width: 10.75. Cuffs: 1.5 (full and true cuffs). Respecting the enormous response to this listing I’d like to provide some detailed information as to the mending status on the trousers pockets. NO there’s no nothing at all but YES there’s some mending done at the trousers pocket seams: both lower edges on side pockets and one at the left rear pocket. All of wich are clearly visible when you look at them but hardly noticeable when worn and not visible when worn with the jacket.
